Cindy Garner

Journey from Mom to Medical Assistant

When Cindy Garner turned 50, she celebrated in a big way. She did three things: had a big party, ran a half-marathon, and started college at CCC. She was starting a new journey: from mom to medical assistant.

Cindy had taken a 30-year break from school to raise a family and help with her husband’s sales and marketing consulting business. She was facing a new journey at 50 and had some doubts: Was she “college material?”

With hard work and self-determination, encouragement from family and instructors, and financial help from CCC scholarships, Cindy succeeded in college and earned honor roll grades. In spring 2012 she graduated with a certificate from the Medical Assistant program and an associate’s degree in general studies.

For her graduation present, Cindy celebrated big – she ran and won a 10K race! What’s next on her journey? Exploring job opportunities in the medical field and launching into a new career.

Cindy says, “I’m grateful for my experience at CCC. I encourage others not to hold back. Go to school, you’ll be glad you did!”
