Horticulture FFX – Raised Garden Beds
The Horticulture Department utilized Foundation Funds for Excellence (FFX) to build accessible raised garden beds and pathways for the spring Organic Gardening class. Originally, the fall Landscape Installation class constructed three raised beds designed to accommodate students with mobility challenges, allowing them to participate fully in hands-on gardening activities. This project emphasizes gardening from a home gardener perspective and ensures that all students, regardless of physical limitations, have access to a functional and engaging learning environment.
This past fall, the department added two more beds, bringing the total to five accessible raised garden beds. The pathways around the beds were also designed for ease of movement, creating a space that is both inclusive and educational. These improvements support the Organic Gardening curriculum while showcasing homeowner-style beds that students can replicate in their own gardens or future careers.
